This post is also available in: Spanish

Last Saturday the 13th of August, the Casa de Campo community celebrated the Fundación MIR  Family Weekend for Life, during which Emilia Fanjul was presented with the “MIR Humanitarian” award.

The Fundación MIR Family Weekend for Life event raised money for the Fundación MIR, a charity which provides educational services to the children of the greater La Romana area. As part of the event and fundraising efforts, supporters of the Fundación MIR took part in tennis and golf tournaments and at the end of the day enjoyed a fantastic dinner gala at the Minitas Beach in Casa de Campo.

During the dinner-gala, founder and President of the Fundación MIR, Lian Fanjul de Azqueta and her daughter, Lyanne Azqueta took to the stage to thank their guests and supporters. Lyanne took the opportunity to say a very special ‘Thank You’ to Emilia and Jose “Pepe” Fanjul for their continued support of the Fundación MIR for the last 20 years!  Sadly, Emilia herself was unable to attend the Casa de Campo event, but her children Emilia and Pepe Jr. took to the stage to receive the award in their mother’s name.

Emilia and Jose “Pepe” Fanjul were honored with this award, in recognition of their special and incredibly generous contributions to the Fundación MIR. Together they have been hosting the ‘Cartier event’ every December at their Casa de Campo estate ‘Casa Grande.’ The Cartier event has been hosted by the Fanjul’s for the past 20 years and has raised over 1 million dollars for the MIR schools.
