Last Friday, March 30th, the Gold Cup Finals marked the last polo match of the DR Polo Challenge 2018, and what a season it has been! This year, we have seen exciting matches played with incredible special guests, after polo performances, and even the Concours D’elegance car show during games. The players have had an incredible season and we can’t wait for next years DR Polo Challenge! The season kicked off with the Hector Vargas Cup commemorating polo legend Hector Vargas.  His daughters were in attendance for the match and even gave a tribute to their father. In the finals, Monterosso played Lechuza with Monterosso taking home the gold with a final score of 12 to 5. Following the Hector Vargas Cup, the Bronze Cup began with fast paced matches.  With Monterosso winning the first Cup, Agualinda, Lechuza, and Casa de Campo were all eager to take the title of Bronze Cup champions. After an intense game with Lechuza playing Monterroso playing one another in the finals once again, Lechuza took home the win with a final score of 9 to 6, leaving the two teams tied overall with each taking home one tournament win. Following the Bronze Cup, it was time for the VI BRITCHAM British Polo Cup, honoring William J. Reid Baquero. The Ambassadors of the United Kingdom, Honorable Chris Campbell and Honorable Sharon Campbell, attended the match and what an exciting match it was! Even Mr. Baquero’s family attended as guests of honor enjoying the polo match and silent auction. Up next for the season, the Silver Cup began and during the subsidiary finals, the Casa de Campo team beat Agualinda with a score of 9 to 5. The finals of the Silver Cup, Monterosso played Lechuza. The teams were tied up to this point with Monterosso winning the Hector Vargas Cup and Lechuza winning the Bronze Cup. This game would be the current tie breaker and the teams battled it out on the field! In the end, Lechuza team won by 1 goal! The Gold Cup Finals happened over the weekend, bringing the DR Polo Challenge this year to an end. The teams battled it out on the field with once again Lechuza playing against Monterosso in the finals. With the overall tournament score 2-1 Lechuza, Monterosso tried their best to bring home the gold and finish out the tournament with a 2-2 tie. The teams played well, and ultimately Lechuza won! Team Lechuza has been very strong this season winning 3 out of the 4 tournament cups! All of the teams have been strong competitors throughout the entire season, and we can’t wait for next year’s season to begin!
