DR Open Casa de CampoNext week in Casa de Campo, one of the biggest events in the resorts 40 year history is taking place on the Teeth of the Dog golf course – the DR Open golf tournament. 

The DR Open golf tournament organised by the Dominican Federation of Golf (FEDOGOLF) is the 7th stop of the NEC Series – PGA Tour Latinoamérica, and will be the first time the Casa de Campo resort has hosted a professional golf tournament. In honor of this special occasion, which also marks the Casa de Campo resort’s 40th anniversary, Casa de Campo will be welcoming guests from around the world and across the Dominican Republic.

teeth of the dogWhile Casa de Campo villa owners and visitors will of course be very welcome to come out and watch, Casa de Campo will also be allowing access to outside visitors, who will just need to show a valid form of photo ID to gain access to the Casa de Campo resort. The DR Open golf tournament will be played on the Teeth of the Dog from May 12th to May 18th. Tournament week will begin with an open qualifying round for unranked players on Monday, May 12, the top 15 players of this round will then compete in the championship rounds. Practice rounds will be played on Tuesday and Wednesday, while a ProAm tournament will also take place on Wednesday. Championship play will be Thursday through Sunday, May 15-18. The 72-hole, stroke-play tournament will feature 144 players, from close to 20 countries, including the United States and Latin America, competing for both the individual title and winner’s share of the $150,000 total purse.

The welcome cocktail and dinner will be celebrated on Wednesday May 14th, and will include the prize-giving for the ProAm tournament, as well as the inductions into the Dominican Golf Hall of Fame. Pete Dye, from the United States will become the first non-Dominican to be inducted into the Dominican Golf Hall of Fame, an honor in recognition of his contribution in making the Dominican Republic a world-class golf destination.(Click here to read more.)

On Sunday May 18th, the DR Open golf tournament will come to a close following the final championship round (teeing off around the Teeth of the Dog at 7am) with the prize-giving ceremony to be celebrated at approximately midday.

“This is the largest golf championship held in the country, which also has a positive impact on the growth of golf in the Dominican Republic,” said Peter Bonell, Chief Marketing Officer for Casa de Campo. “We hope the success of the Dominican Republic Open at Casa de Campo will help develop many great players in a country that has so many great golf courses.”

Monday May 12th
9am: Qualifying round for unranked players on the Teeth of the Dog

Tuesday May 13th
7:30am – 5pm: Practice rounds on the Teeth of the Dog

Wednesday May 14th
9am: ProAm tournament on the Teeth of the Dog
2pm: Practice rounds on the Teeth of the Dog
7pm: Welcome dinner and inductions into the Dominican Golf Hall of Fame

Thursday May 15th
7am: First tournament round on the Teeth of the Dog

Friday May 16th
7am: Second tournament round on the Teeth of the Dog

Saturday May 17th
7am: Third tournament round on the Teeth of the Dog

Sunday May 18th
7am: Final tournament round on the Teeth of the Dog, followed by the prize-giving

How to enjoy the DR Open in Casa de Campo

Casa de Campo villa owners
All Casa de Campo villa owners and residents are welcome to come and watch any or all of the tournament rounds of the DR Open in Casa de Campo. Throughout the contest, volunteers will be on the Teeth of the Dog directing and helping people who wish to watch. Instructions and rules from the PGA will be enforced. A few key rules to be aware of:

  • Golf carts will not be allowed on the Teeth of the Dog throughout the DR Open. In this type of event it is customary for spectators to walk around the course. However, for those who prefer not to walk the entire 18 holes, there will be designated golf cart parking areas near the entrance to many holes, so that you can drive along the road and then walk onto the course.
  • Spectators may not approach the professional players for autographs or photographs during a round.
  • All telephones must be on silent.

Outside guests

  • Visitors not staying within the Casa de Campo resort, will be able to gain access by showing a valid photo ID.
  • These guests will then park at the Casa de Campo polo fields, from where they will be transported to the Teeth of the Dog golf course.
  • Once at the Teeth of the Dog golf course, guests are invited to walk around the course and enjoy the contest.
