Have you really seen the Dominican Republic? From a map we know the country’s regions, their names and locations, and if we’re lucky we travel on the weekends to the island’s glorious beaches or to its scenic mountain tops, but through the cameras of twenty-two photographers a more unique view of our nation and the Caribbean as a whole is waiting. The group of artists a part of the visual communications company, One & One opened their exhibition on Thursday, October 12th at the Gallery in Altos de Chavón. “Dos Años de Fotosafaris" The exhibition “Dos Años de Fotosafaris” is a collection of photographs, curated by Ginna Ozuna and Juan Carlos Vélaz, detailing two years of work by the team trekking through the wilderness and remote villages, capturing bridleways, rainbows, inhabitants, rivers, microclimates, coastlines, and more. Visible is a breathtaking stillness and silence, magnificence that the universe can be so dazzling on a macro and micro scale. From birds eye views of vast landscapes to detailed close ups of humble wildlife, the exhibition displays a variety of scenery and scenarios that would take years to explore on one’s own foot, and that which we might never discover as beautifully portrayed as through the lenses of these talented individuals. “Dos Años de Fotosafaris” Juan Carlos Vélaz says, “We travel thinking about photography as a target, we are aware of what is happening… in the purpose of achieving good material.” It is their intention to document the Caribbean’s beautiful reality and share with others their love and respect for the natural environment and local culture. One of the most compelling attributes of the “Dos Años de Fotosafaris” exhibition may be not just what the subject is, but the reason the photographer has in capturing it. We are allowed to contemplate his or her point of view and expression. “Dos Años de Fotosafaris” With the authentic, rustic, and multicolored images of real life, you haven’t really seen the Dominican Republic and Caribbean so closely until you’ve seen it through the lenses of “Fotosafaris”. It’s the last weekend to visit The Gallery to view the exhibition on display, which comes down on Wednesday, November 1st! Add a stop to Altos de Chavón within the next few days for this eye-opening feature! “Dos Años de Fotosafaris” View more photos of the opening exhibition of “Dos Años de Fotosafaris” on Thursday, October 12th by Mariana Heredia in the gallery below:
