I was born in Dominican Republic which means I have salt water running through my veins, I day dream of the beach every day and I always, always hear the sounds of merengue in my mind as my hips move to the rhythm of the Latin beat. I’m an island girl at heart.
Currently I live in Florida and don’t get to visit much these days, but my father, two brothers and two sisters still live there.
When one of my younger sisters announced she was getting married and having the wedding in the resort community of Casa de Campo, I thought what better excuse to come and stay a few days? Like I really need an excuse anyway? It’s been too long.
Casa de Campo is the most perfect wedding venue. It also happens to be very near from where my family lives.
If you can picture what island life should be, then you have an idea of what it’s like to live in or visit Casa de Campo resort. It’s perfect!
Inside this community and resort you have everything you need to live pretty much the perfect island beach life. One of my favorite places to visit inside the resort is the private beach. Playa Minitas is exclusive to the residents and guests of Casa de Campo. The water there is crystal clear, the sand is white, the sun shines bright and the palm trees sway perfectly in the breeze.
At the beach you can hang out on a lounger or enjoy a day with friends in a private beach front cabana. You can even try a beach front massage while you’re there.
My sisters and I kept it simple. We lounged and sipped water straight from the coconut that was just pulled off a palm tree. That was all I needed to be perfectly happy all day. This is the life!
Of course I stuck with my exercise routine while I was there too, so when I wasn’t lounging I was practicing yoga on the beach. That’s how I stay in shape. It’s easy and you don’t need any special equipment other than a mat. No mat for me though. Right on the sand will do. To practice in such a setting is every yogi’s dream.

If you’re a little more adventurous there are other things to do too, like horseback riding on the beach. You can mount your horse at the stables and follow your guide through the paths that take you directly to the beach. There are water sports too but I prefer to keep my feet on solid ground. Just give me my coconut and I’m happy.
My stay wasn’t very long this time. Just long enough to enjoy a few lazy days lounging at the beach inside Casa de Campo and a lovely family dinner at the beautiful Altos de Chavon inside the resort. Most of time we were very busy with a full schedule of wedding related activities culminating with the big event at an exquisite mansion inside the resort.
I plan on coming back very soon because it just wasn’t long enough and being there made me realize how much I miss this beautiful place and my family. I just can’t enough of it. It’s the one place where I truly feel relaxed and at home.
When I return you can find me at the beach of course. I’ll also bring my kids so they can get to know the place where I was born and will always be my home. Most likely I’ll be sipping my coconut water and practicing my yoga while the kids play. I may even teach my niece and nephew a few yoga moves and they can teach me a few of their dance moves. Until next time, mi tierra! Namaste!
