Saturday the 17th of September was “International Clean Coasts Day” and all over the Dominican Republic, passionate communities, organisations and individuals came together to support this great cause and help get the coasts and oceans of the Dominican Republic CLEAN!
Whilst hundreds of volunteers collected rubbish and debris from beaches of the Dominican Republic, Dominican long-distance swimmer, Marcos Díaz supported the cause by taking part in a “coastal swim,” an effort which was supported by American Airlines.
Marcos Díaz swam an epic 26 kilometres from Sosúa to Puerto Plata on the Northern coast of the Dominican Republic.
As well as supporting Marcos Díaz’s “coastal swim”, a team of American Airlines workers from the Puerto Plata airport supported the cause personally – by spending the day collected bags of rubbish and debris from local beaches.
Also supporting “International Clean Coasts Day” were a group of individuals and businesses from the La Romana – Bayahibe area, who spent the day gathering more than 150 bags of rubbish from Isla Catalina – a beautiful island off of the south coast of La Romana and Casa de Campo!
