To mark the end of the Fiestas Patronales in La Roaman, the Aldea Cultural Santa Rosa de Lima celebrated with a fabulous Noche de Atabales!

This past Saturday, 30th of August, was El Día de la Santa Rosa de Lima ( Santa Rosa de Lima Day) and the final day of the Fiestas Patronales, celebrated in La Romana in honor of the patroness saint “Santa Rosa de Lima,” the perfect excuse for the Aldea Cultural Santa Rosa de Lima to hold marvellous cultural celebration with the unique and lively music of the Atabales.
Since the Fiestas Patronales are a religious celebration, Celeste Cruz opened the evening with an acapella performance of an improvised version of Salves, accompanied by Luisa María Ortiz, provincial director of La Romana for the Ministry of Culture and Dra. Lurdes Cuesta in order to strengthen the spiritual environment. The Atabales were played by Mrs. Celeste’s group, leaving those who attended enriched and enlivened with the unique Dominican culture.
Atabales are a percussion instrument of African origin and here, in the Dominican Republic they form part of many cultural and religious celebrations. These drums were inherited from the African slaves that were brought here by the Spaniards and hence, are an import part of the Dominican culture.
Among the audience there was a range of personalities from Casa de Campo and the town of La Romana, such as: Gianfranco Fini, Jackie Arvelo, María Ventura, Felipe Rangel, Lupita and Carlos Mosca, Ivonna Sosa, Dra. Nancy Gross, Ana Messin, Eduardo de Tejera, Mr. and Mrs. Elmufdi and Rafael Torres.
