Welcome to another edition of the Dominican / English Dictionary, where each week we teach to our Casa de Campo community a typical Dominican word, in order to facilitate communication between foreigners and Dominicans.
Dominicans are a creative people, something which is especially evident, in the way we talk – often using words that are not listed in the dictionary.
And so… We hope you learn and enjoy this dominican word! This week we continue with a very common Dominican word specially used among friends or when you answer a question with a wrong answer.
Guayarse
“Guayarse” means “Messing up“, “to make a mistake” or fail to succeed, when that things did not go as expected.
Example 1:
“He just messed up” / ¡Él acaba de guayarse!
Example 2:
“If she doesn’t study for her exam, she could fail!” / ¡Si ella no estudia para su examen, podría guayarse!
Example 3:
“She always messes up when she dances.” / Siempre se guaya al bailar.
