Immerse yourself in the captivating world of Al Hirschfeld, the renowned 20th-century American cartoonist, as Casa de Campo proudly presents “Hirschfeld’s Icons” at the WAO Gallery & Cultural Center on February 2. This exclusive exhibition promises to dazzle art enthusiasts and culture aficionados alike.

David Leonard, curator of Al Hirschfeld’s esteemed collection and representative of the Al Hirschfeld Foundation, will take the stage to introduce guests to the artist’s extraordinary journey and masterpieces. The much-anticipated showcase, a collaborative effort between Casa de Campo and the Patronato Benéfico Oriental (PBO), aims to bring influential and diverse artists to the community directly.

Attendees will enjoy an enchanting evening among Hirschfeld’s iconic drawings, featuring renowned artists and Broadway productions. Hirschfeld’s distinctive style, characterized by minimalist lines capturing the essence of characters, transcends traditional cartooning, earning him the title of “character artist.”

Hirschfeld’s contribution to the art world is profound. His unique visual language, marked by fluid, rhythmic, and symbolic lines, has influenced generations of artists. Recognized with the National Medal of Arts of the United States, Hirschfeld’s drawings adorned the pages of the New York Times for 75 years and now grace esteemed institutions like the Metropolitan, Whitney, National Portrait Gallery, and Harvard’s Theater Collection.

During last year’s pop-up exhibit at WAO Chavón, David Leonard highlighted the Al Hirschfeld Foundation’s mission, emphasizing their dedication to showcasing, preserving, and interpreting the artist’s work through exhibitions and sponsorships. Hirschfeld’s impact extends beyond his artistic prowess; he authored several books and was honored as a living landmark by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission and a living legend by the Library of Congress.

This exhibition celebrates the legacy of a true artistic pioneer and offers a cultural experience that will resonate long after it concludes. Don’t miss it!
