On Thursday the 24th of February, the Altos de Chavón art gallery will be inaugurating it’s newest art gallery exhibition ‘Destellos De La Memoria’ and you are cordially invited to enjoy the celebration! (En Español debajo.)
The inauguration cocktail for the new exhibit will take place at 7:30pm at the Altos de Chavón main art gallery in Altos de Chavón this Thursday the 24th of February and all Casa de Campo and Altos de Chavón residents, friends, family, tourists and art lovers are invited to attend! There will be drinks for you to enjoy as you peruse and admire the new art exhibit!
The new art exhibit is called ‘Destellos de la Memoria’ which in English translates as ‘Flash Memory’ and will consist of a mixture of photography, paintings and ceramic pieces by artist Carlos Montesino. Montesino is a Dominican artist from Santiago, who first began studying art at the ‘Escuela Municipal de Bellas Artes’ and came to the Altos de Chavób School of Art and Design, where he studied fine arts and illustration. Montesino was so successful in his studies whilst in Altos de Chavón, he was awarded a scholarship to study painting at the Parsons New School for Design.
As well as being an exhibiting artist Montesino has been a teacher at the Altos de Chavon School of Art and Design. Within the Dominican Republic Montesino has taken part in 12 individual art exhibits and more than 40 collective exhibits both nationally and internationally.
The exhibit which opens on the 24th of February will remain open until the 21st of March!

Carlos Montesino nació en Santiago, y sus estudios iniciales transcurren en la Escuela Municipal de Bellas Artes, en su pueblo natal. En 1978 se gradúa Cum Laude en Artes Publicitarias de la UASD. Posteriormente ingresa al programa de Bellas Artes e Ilustración en La Escuela de Diseño de Altos de Chavón. Sus meritos académicos y artísticos le hacen ganador de la Beca otorgada por Parsons The New School for Design, en donde obtiene su Maestría en Pintura. Montesino ha permanecido ligado a La Escuela de Diseño como profesor, actividad que también realiza en la UASD y en el programa de La Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes. Su disciplina y rigor académico ha moldeado a cientos de artistas dominicanos que agradecen y valoran este aprendizaje.
El artista empieza a exponer a muy temprana edad y desde entonces ha mantenido su presencia participando en exposiciones de grupos dentro de las cuales destacan la efectuadas como parte del colectivo Generación del 80. Ha presentado doce exposiciones individuales en el país, en el Distrito Federal de México, Santiago de Chile y Martinica. Ha participado en mas de cuarenta exposiciones colectivas nacional e internacionalmente. Su trabajo se encuentra en colecciones publicas y privadas en la República Dominicana, Estados Unidos, Europa, Sur y Centro América. Tras varios años sin exponer su trabajo al público, regresa en 2010 con Canaluz, exposición presentada en Punta Cana Art Gallery.
