Celebrating the world’s best ornamentals growers, the International Association of Horticultural Producers recently bestowed upon La Romana’s own Costa Farms the coveted Gold Rose, awarding them the global status as the 2016 International Grower of the Year.
The award recognises the company’s horticulture expertise, energy and production practices. The third-generation, family-owned company is headquartered in Miami, Florida, although most of its plant propagation is started at their beautiful nursery just minutes away from Casa de Campo. The company’s humble beginnings date back to 1961 when founder, Jose Costa Sr., purchased 30 acres south of Miami to grow fresh, vine-ripened tomatoes in the winter and calamondin citrus in the summer. Today, Costa grows more than 1,500 varieties of houseplants.
Finalists from Canada, China, Germany, Netherlands, Turkey, UK and USA aspired to receive the coveted recognition. Costa Farms managed to outdo its competitors and bring home the Finished Plants and Trees top grower award in addition to the International Grower of the Year Gold Rose, a testament to the company’s commitment to be the best in the industry.
A tour of Costa Nursery’s facilities in La Romana is a treat in itself. The extensive farm is best seen by riding a golf cart between rows upon rows of spectacular plants—including houseplants, orchids, indoor and outdoor cacti and succulents, tropical shrubs, annual and perennial bedding plants. Perhaps the most spectacular displays of Costa Farm’s work are the public spaces and gardens throughout Casa de Campo, featuring colorful Bougainvilleas, towering palm trees, and other plants that have become iconic in the Casa landscape.
Costa Farms is also the preferred landscaping service provider for Casa de Campo homes and projects, designing jaw- dropping yards and providing the maintenance service to keep the gardens looking immaculate at all times. As leaders of the global horticulture industry, Costa Nursery is as dedicated to its international business ventures as much as it is committed to providing the best plants and landscaping services in Casa de Campo.
