Next Thursday the 17th of January the Altos de Chavón Regional Museum of Archeology invites you to a conference “The Legacy of Indigenous People in the Dominican Republic” being presented by the Smithsonian Institute. 

This free conference which is open to the general public will discuss the Smithsonian Project “El Legado Indígena en la Republic Dominicana” – the presence of  indigenous people and indigenous heritage in the culture and history of the Caribbean region, and will take place between 10am and 1pm at the Altos de Chavón Regional Museum of Archeology.

The principle aim of the project is to open an exhibition in 2016 in the National Museum of Indigenous America in New York (a Smithsonian Institution) and will examine the presence of indigenous influences in the language, agricultural practices, medicinal knowledge, religious traditions, national symbols in Caribbean culture and customs.

The schedule for the conference is as follows:

10am – Welcome

10.10am – Presentation on “El Legado Indígena en la Republic Dominicana” (The Legacy of Indigenous People in the Dominican Republic)

10:40am – Reclaiming the indigenous heritage in Dominican society

11.10am – Questions and testimonies from the public

12pm – Conclusion
