The much anticipated 33rd Annual Sugar Golf Tournament is just around the corner! Every year, Casa de Campo fills with players eager to participate in another fantastic weekend filled with great golf, wonderful shopping, delicious dinner parties, and of course the fashion show all benefitting the Fundación MIR! This year, just as years before, the weekend is jam packed with events you won’t want to miss out on! Men will be playing the Teeth of the Dog and the La Romana Country Club while the ladies play the Dye Fore and the Links.

The beloved Casa tradition kicks off Wednesday with practice rounds on Teeth of the Dog or La Romana Country Club for men and on Dye Fore or Links for ladies. Following the practice rounds, the Sugar Tournament and Benetti are hosting the opening cocktail at the beautiful oceanside Minitas Beach Club from 6pm-9pm.

Thursday is filled with more practice rounds for teams and is the first day of the shopping bazaar at the La Romana Country Club! The Bazaar benefits MIR charities so when you shop at the bazaar you aren’t just shopping for yourself, but you are also giving back to a great cause that is near and dear to the Casa community! At the Bazaar you can buy beautiful jewelry, arts and crafts, home decor, clothing, and much much more! The Bazaar is open Thursday from 2pm-9pm, Friday and Saturday from 9am-9pm, and Sunday from 9am-12pm! Thursday evening, Casa Grande is hosting the Calcutta dinner. If you’re interested in attending, be sure to register and pay the fee before Thursday afternoon!

Friday the tournament officially begins! Men will be competing on the Teeth of the Dog and on the La Romana Country Club while the ladies play the Dye Fore and the Links! There is also a tour of the MIR schools Friday from 10am-12pm with busses provided leaving from the La Romana Country Club. That evening, Rolando and Monica Gonzalez Bunster are hosting an Argentine pizza and meat cocktail hour and dinner party!

Saturday is the final day of the competition! While teams are out on the greens, there will be a Ladies’ tennis tournament at the La Romana Country Club at 9am followed by a ladies’ luncheon and fashion show at 1pm! The looks are sure to be breathtaking and like years past, having ladies buying outfits straight off the runway! Saturday evening the 33rd Sugar weekend will conclude with an awards presentation and dinner and dancing at the La Romana Country Club!

We know you are as excited for the coming weekend as we are! Just one week away, the Sugar Tournament has become a favorite weekend for many people in the community, bringing together friends from all over to support a worthy cause! Whether you’re competing on the course or in the mood to shop the Bazaar, the weekend is sure to be fun for everyone!

About the Sugar Golf Tournament…

The Sugar Golf Tournament is the Fundación MIR’s original fundraising event, from which Lian Fanjul de Azqueta, Founder and President of the charity got the seed money to open the “Casa de Paz”, which has now become the internationally recognized foundation, today called the “Fundación MIR.”

Originally just a “normal” golf tournament, “The Sugar” was founded in 1984 by Alfy Fanjul and Don Creamer. When Alfy  (Lian’s brother) won in 1990 he donated his winnings to Lian, thus transforming the Sugar golf tournament into a charity event for the Fundación MIR, and as such one of the most glamorous, exclusive and important events in the Casa de Campo social calendar.
