Codigo Paz

Hello there Casa de Campo Living fans! Well while we normally don’t write “movie reviews”, in the case of Código Paz we have decided to do so for one very good reason – the lead of the movie is a member of our Casa de Campo community!

David Maler

And while we often have movie stars, pop stars, sports stars and all other kinds of celebrities visiting our beloved Casa de Campo, it’s not everyday that we get to see one of our own grow up to become a Dominican movie star!

For those of you who don’t know, we’re talking about David Maler, who stars alongside his wife, Nashla Bogaert in the movie Código Paz. And you know what? David is a really great actor! Although we’ve heard a lot about David’s achievements in the acting arena, last night when I went to see Código Paz for myself, that was the first time I saw him in action, and I must say I was impressed.

Código Paz tells the tale of Pedro (played by David Maler), who in pursuit of a quick buck robs houses… as you can imagine it all goes wrong, in many different ways, and despite being a “bad guy”, Pedro somehow comes out as a “good guy”.

So is it the most amazing movie ever…? Don’t make us answer that, though some (cough, me, cough) might argue that it was more fun to watch than the latest Woody Allen movie. It’s entertaining and has enough chops, twists and action to make it a very enjoyable movie going experience. There was a bit of violence to it, and we think the special effect guys really had a little too much creative freedom in a few scenes, but overall the movie, plot and acting was solid and enjoyable. A good combination of seriousness, while a bit cheesy at times, we recommend it to anyone looking for something fun to watch.

Congratulations to David! Not only are you now a movie star, but you’re a good one too!

TONIGHT is your last chance to see Código Paz in the cinema at the Marina Casa de Campo (movies change tomorrow). So go see it tonight – at 7:20pm or 9:30pm. Click here for the movies and times.
