The businesses and organisations of the La Romana – Bayahibe area recently joined together to clean up the beautiful “Isla Catalina” (Catalina Island), located just south of Casa de Campo and La Romana. Concerned that some popular tourist destinations in the La Romana – Bayahibe area were not looking their best, local businesses joined together with the ‘Clúster Turístico La Romana Bayahibe’  (the La Romana Bayahibe tourism organization) to embark on a monthly clean-up mission, with the first opertaion taking place at Catalina Island on the 14th of August. The team of volunteers focused their cleaning efforts on 2 principal areas: • “La Pared” or ‘The Wall”  – a popular place to snorkel or scuba dive where the sea bed turns into a cliff and literally plummets into an inky darkness (like in the movie Finding Nemo!) • ‘Capitan Kidd’ – a 1699 shipwreck and cannon repository, which was in desperate need for a clean-up! The last time we went there it was so dirty, we recommended exploring tourists and locals “skip it” To read more about snorkeling around Catalina Island, click here Throughout the clean-up exhibition, 104 bags of garbage and rubbish was collected – leaving the 2 areas free from debris, bottles, plastic, shoes and more! The next clean-up mission is taking place on Saturday the 17th of September – International ‘Clean Beach Day’ To find out more and get involved contact: clusterromanabayahibe@gmail.com
