Welcome to the second edition of Claudio’s Tips for Casa Gents, a weekly column for Casa de Campo community gentlemen where I, Perkin, share some practical men’s fashion tips and showcase the latest trends in men’s wear, advised by my good friend Claudio Marte, owner of HUOMO.
In our beautiful Caribbean island we enjoy an eternal summer and warm climate year round. Linen is therefore one of the most recommended fabric options to wear at any time, due to its softness, freshness and lightness.
While white linen is a classic among Casa Gents during daytime and even formal night-time activities, and since we welcomed summer last Sunday, June 21st, Claudio reminds us that this is the right time to bring out a burst of color with your linen! Let’s see what Claudio has to say about this fabric and how to use it during the summer:
Important Facts About Linen by Claudio Marte
1.Ideal for warm climates
Linen fabrics provide a sense of freshness since it is a good heat conductor. Its first uses may be found in ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia with very warm temperatures. This is the perfect piece for the summer thanks to its soft texture and because it helps perspiration.

2. Wide color palette
Although the white linen is the most famous and used, we should not limit ourselves only to this color, as there is a wide color palette, such as blue in all its degradations, pink, dark peach or cream that suit your summer wardrobe perfectly. Don’t be afraid to combine linen with cotton in these colour variations as both fabrics can portray the sense of freshness and elegance.
3. It can be used at any time of the day
Linen can be worn on any time of the day. You may use stronger colors towards the end of the day or opt for more formal pieces such as guayaberas or long sleeves shirts. Combining linen in light colours with a blazer or dark coloured pants can also give your outfit a more formal touch.
4. Special ironing
You should definitely consider using starch while ironing linen in order to add more rigidity. The more formal pieces should definitely be ironed to look a lot more rigid than casual linen pieces.
So now you know Casa Gents, keep cool, have some fun this summer with your linen and don’t be afraid to add a burst of color!
