“I wanted to learn at a more personal level, and foster self-improvement, and what better place than in Chavón?” Alexander Matos, current Fine Arts student at the Altos de Chavón School of Art and Design.

The prestigious Altos de Chavón School of Art and Design, which has been graduating students since 1983, has become the home of many Dominican and foreign artists and designers now widely recognized for their works in the fashion industry, graphic design and the fine arts.

There is no doubt that the School knows how to prepare their students for their future careers in their chosen art area. We are pleased to present Alexander Matos, a current student on his second year of Fine Arts.

Alexander

Alexander Matos, graduated from the national school of “Bellas Artes” (Fine Arts) and after a few years decided to follow in the footsteps of many of his friends, to continue his artistic development at the Altos de Chavón School of Art and Design.

Being at the school has meant a lot of work and sacrifice for Alexander, and yet his feelings for the can be summed up with the words “work, emotion and concept”, reflecting the sense that all his hard work is starting to pay off.

We had the chance to ask Alexander a few questions about his experience at the Altos de Chavón School of Art and Design.

@cdcliving: How did you find out about the Altos de Chavón School of Art and Design.?

I didn’t know much about the school at first, after my first year at Bellas Artes at Santo Domingo, many of my classmates went to the Altos de Chavón School of Art and Design… so I started to get interested, I started to do some research and found out how prestigious the school was and I decided to apply.

@cdcliving: Do you ever regret coming here from Santo Domingo?

No, never. I wanted to work at a more personal level so I knew that the the Altos de Chavón School of Art and Design was the perfect place to push myself a little further and continue my career. It’s hard to leave the place you come from, but I actually like it here and it’s definitely all for the best.
