rio chavon

The magnificent Río Chavón forms a natural border to the east of the Casa de Campo resort, as it meanders south below the Dye Fore golf course and Altos de Chavón, before arriving to the Caribbean sea by the Marina Casa de Campo. The 63km river originates in the Cordillera Oriental, one of the Dominican Republic’s 3 mountainous areas, which on a clear day can be seen on the horizon from Altos de Chavón.

Most famous for it’s brief appearance in the movie Apoca- lypse Now shot in 1979, and also Jurassic Park, filmed in 1993, the Río Chavón is most typically admired from Al- tos de Chavón. But this magnificent river offers much more than just a beautiful view and great photo opportunities – it is also a natural and abundant habitat for native Domini- can wildlife, making it a wonderful place to explore and experience the natural beauty and diversity of the Domini- can Republic- beyond the beaches and golf courses.
