This Sunday July the 22nd, the Central Romana “Fin de Zafra Golf Invitational”, hosted by the Cajuiles Golf Club will be taking place on Casa de Campo’s Links golf course to mark the end of the Central Romana Corporation’s 2011- 2012 milling season.
The tournament, a longtime tradition played annually by the members of the Cajuiles Golf Club directed by Francisco Micheli, President of the La Romana baseball team “Los Torros” and also Vice-President of Public Relations at the Central Romana Corporation, in addition to many other special guests. On this occasion, the tournament will be played in “Best Ball in pairs” format, starting at 8am with a maximum handicap of 24.
The event is being celebrated in honor of Orlando Deffer, Vice-President of Industrial Operations, who has worked for the Central Romana Corporation since the 2nd of September 1965, and Dr. Francis Redman, Vice-President of Agricultural Research at the Central Romana Corporation, who are both entering retirement and are being honored in thanks for their many years faithful service at the Central Romana.
The Central Romana sugar factory in La Romana
The Central Romana sugar factory in La Romana, which is this year celebrating it’s 100th anniversary has just finished its sugar production for the period 2011-2012, closing with a new record breaking production of 183,488 short tons of refined sugar, an increase of more than 1% over last year’s bumper production of 181, 516 tonnes – a record production of refined sugar which ensures continuing prosperity for the La Romana area, as well as the entire Dominican Republic.

After the tournament, members of the Cajuiles Golf Club and special guests are invited to have lunch at the Club Caza y Pesca in La Romana, where trophies will be awarded to the three best net scores.
