Following record sugar production in the period 2010-2011, the Central Romana Corporation in La Romana has just announced that it will be rewarding all of its employees with bonus payments to the sum of 631 million pesos – which is about 16 million dollars!
This huge bonus will be being enjoyed by Central Romana’s personnel of the industrial, engineering and agricultural areas of the corporation and is equivalent to a bonus of 81 days of work – something which will no doubt be very gratefully received!
The United Union of Workers of the Central Romana, which has more than 15,000 members, was understandably very pleased with this bonus. “This is a record bonus for the benefit of all workers who worked during the harvest,” said the Secretary General Guillermo Luna.
Apart from this economic incentive, Central Romana also invests heavily in sectors such as health, education, food and housing for all employees and workers, as part of its broader corporate social responsibility program.
Last week, Central Romana announced the results of the completed harvest for 2010-2011, which set a new national record, with 181,516 short tons of refined sugar. The total milling was 3,418,423 short tons of cane for production of over 430,000 short tons of sugar and more than 19 million gallons of molasses. To read more about the bumper harvest, click here!
Central Romana is currently in the process of completing a new and modern three-storey hospital building, which will double its capacity to care. The company has also built schools for children of workers in agricultural areas, and within its housing programs has provided more than five hundred employees with houses in urban areas.
