The Central Romana sugar factory in La Romana, which is celebrating it’s 100th anniversary has just finished its sugar production for the period 2011-2012, closing with a new record breaking production of 183,488 short tons of refined sugar – an increase of more than 1% over last year’s bumper production of 181, 516 tonnes. 

The news of a record production of refined sugar means continuing prosperity for the La Romana area as well as the entire Dominican Republic, as this ensures a continuous sugar supply creating not only stable markets, but also employment.

Central Romana also announced that its refined sugar manufacture has been awarded the ISO-9001 certification for Quality Control by the International Organization for Standardization., becoming the first mill in the Dominican Republic to achieve this important goal, ensuring compliance with international standards in developing refined sugar.

Following the closing of last year’s sugar production period, the Central Romana corporation announced that it’s refined sugar manufacture had been awarded the ISO-9001 certification for Quality Control by the International Organization for Standardization – which recognizes the company’s commitment to adhering to strict international standards for producing refined sugar. This year’s record crop production was the first delivered since the certification was rewarded. Central Romana remains the only sugar mill in the Dominican Republic that complies with such international standards.

During the milling period 2011-2012 Central Romana processed 3,518,646 short tons of sugarcane for a total production of 430,627 short tons of sugar. Also 20,587,000 gallons of molasses were produced. The sugar milling season lasted 208 days with a performance of 12.24%

The Central Romana Corporation established its sugarcane operations in the Eastern part of the Dominican Republic and La Romana – 100 years ago, which means that the company which has been recognized and awarded for its valuable contributions to the economic and social development of the Eastern region is now celebrating it’s 100th anniversary!

One of the biggest employers in the region, the Central Romana Corporation employs more than 20,000 people as well as offering the greater La Romana community services such as healthcare and education as part of it’s corporate and social responsibility programs.

Central Romana inaugurates new hospital “El Centro Medico”

On the 21st of November 2011, the Central Romana Corporation inaugurated it’s new state of the art health facility “El Centro Medico” in a ceremony led by President Leonel Fernandez. The new “Centro Médico” which represented an investment of 1.2 billion pesos for the company is equipped with three floors offering state of the art patient care with 84 beds in comfortable private and semi-private rooms as well as four surgical suites.
