For the fifth time, children aged 8 to 13 showcased their baseball skills in the V Winter Classic Engineer Carlos Morales Troncoso at the Issa Zorob Stadium, located in the Buena Vista Norte sector of La Romana.

“It’s a very special tournament in honor of my grandfather Carlos Morales Troncoso, as he was a great promoter and lover of sports. For us, it is an honor to be able to host this event every year, and God willing, we will continue to do so,” enthusiastically expressed the event organizer, Gabriel Montes de Oca Morales, grandson of Don Carlos Morales.

The first pitch was thrown by Uno Wait, a family friend and special guest from New York, officially starting the tournament with the participation of four (4) teams: Victor Brook League, El Gran Lulo League (EGL), Los Toritos League, and Luis Sabino League from Hato Mayor del Rey.

The winners of this tournament were the players from the Victor Brook League in the Benjamín Sector of La Romana, participating for the first time in this traditional tournament.

The Los Toritos League received awards for being the Leader in Hits, with Emmanuel de la Cruz, and Leader in Triple-Home Runs, with Alejandro Morales. The Leader in Doubles was Carlos Yancen from the Paulino League of Hato Mayor. Meanwhile, Dalbent Coats from the El Gran Lulo League won as the Leader in Strikes.

In a harmonious and camaraderie-filled atmosphere, the young baseball players took the opportunity to interact with “El Torito,” the mascot of the Toros del Este.

The event was attended by Michele Morales de Franco, Ivette Morales de Baittiner, and Cecile Morales de Vitienes with their spouses and children. Also present were Jorge Sturla from Public Relations at Central Romana and Younghee Wait, a special guest from the USA.

It is worth noting that Engineer Carlos Morales Troncoso was a member of the Monetary Board, former vice president, and former chancellor of the Dominican Republic. He played a significant role in the country’s sugar industry, serving as president of the Central Romana Corporation and leading the State Sugar Council of the Dominican Republic. Additionally, he was the founder of the Azucareros del Este, now known as the Toros del Este.
