On Thursday the 13th of September 2012, the Altos de Chavón art gallery celebrated the opening of new art exhibit “100 tiles cerámicas”, a wonderful collection of hand painted ceramic tiles featuring brightly colored flowery and feminine designs, as well as comical representations of famous faces such as Michael Jackson and even Charlie Chaplin.
From 7pm, art aficionados from Casa de Campo, La Romana and the Altos de Chavón School of art and design gathered at the Altos de Chavón art gallery to view and celebrate the opening of the new arte exhibit “100 tiles cerámicas” (100 ceramic tiles) presented by Cuban artist, Wilfredo Torres. And whilst sipping cocktails, those in attendance at the cocktail were undoubtedly rather impressed by the collection of exactly 100 tiles, each one uniquely and individually interesting, inspiring and beautiful.
In attendance at the cocktail celebration was Wilfredo Torres himself, who actually currently resides in the Dominican Republic and who happily greeted the many art fanatics who turned out to view the show, amongst them Manuel and Raisa Tapia and of family law firm Marat Legal, as well as Stephen Kaplan, Rector of the Altos de Chavón School of Art and Design.
“Drawing is the the starting point of everything I can think of. In this sample (“100 tiles cerámicos”), I cannot hide the influence of Cuban artists of the 60′s, a singular language that today is admired around the world.”

Within the collection of 100 tiles, were tiles from a variety of different series “Soles y Flores”, “Mariposas” and another group, which although unnamed were clearly characteurs of world-famous faces such as; the Beatles, Elvis, Charlie Chaplin and Michael Jackson.
