Last Friday July 19th, the 16 boys and girls who took part in the “Exploring the Past” Summer Camp at the Regional Museum of Archaeology in Altos de Chavón celebrated the end of the event with a performance in front of their proud parents, families and friends.
Throughout the two week camp the little ones learnt the basics of the native Taino culture through workshops led by anthropologist Lenin Paulino (Uncle Lenin) and his assistant Dahiana Mercedes.
On one day they also enjoyed a “bird-walk” around Altos de Chavón led by renowned ornithologist Kate Wallace, while on other days the campers enjoyed activities in and around the museum, including their special “discovery” room, in the gardens of Altos de Chavón and all around Altos de Chavón itself. During this closing activity, the excited children showed their parents all the many arts and crafts they had created and took part in a performance they had prepared about the Taino culture and the Discovery of the Americas.
