The 40th installment of the prestigious Sugar Golf Tournament, spearheaded by Alfy Fanjul, unfolded with remarkable success. Nearly 300 golfers from across the globe convened from April 3 to 6, 2024, at Casa de Campo. Competitors showcased their prowess amidst breathtaking scenery and camaraderie across stunning courses such as the Links, Dye Fore, Teeth of the Dog, and La Romana Country Club.

As the final putts sunk and the sun dipped below the horizon, players transitioned from fairways to festivities, converging at the LRCC for a memorable evening of celebration and recognition. Amidst the clinking of glasses and laughter, Alfy Fanjul, the driving force behind the tournament, expressed his gratitude to attendees, marking another year of successful camaraderie and sportsmanship.

In a heartfelt speech, Alvaro Silva, a longtime friend of Fanjul, reminisced about the tournament’s humble beginnings in 1985, underscoring its evolution into a global beacon of amateur golf. “We have come to recognize this tournament as not only a showcase of golfing talent but also a testament to the diverse leisure offerings of Casa de Campo,” said Silva. “This year marked the end of an era, as my partner for 21 years, Alfy Fanjul, decided to retire from competitive golf. I want everyone to give him the biggest and longest standing ovation as a thank you for everything he has done these 40 years.” His sentiments resonated with everyone in attendance as they stood up and applauded, followed by fireworks illuminating the night sky after the award ceremony, commemorating four decades of sporting excellence.

Following dinner, the mood shifted to jubilation as the Leo Subervi Band took to the stage, igniting the dance floor with infectious rhythms. Guests, both veterans and newcomers alike, reveled in the festivities, marking the culmination of an exceptional four-day event.
