Walking into the Orfanato Niños de Cristo is like walking into a bubble of love; the gorgeous orphans receive all their visitors with a sea of smiles and hugs, given with such a pure love, unconditional affection and joy – that the experience brings tears to your eyes and a sudden overwhelming urge to take all the children home with you! Having never visited the Orfanato before, I had no idea what to expect and having no children of my own or really any experience with very young children, I was a little apprehensive about how the children would react to me and how I should behave around them – I was worried I wouldn’t have anything to say to them and that no-one would want to talk to me.  I couldn’t have been more wrong! Instantly surrounded and smothered with hugs and kisses, I felt perfectly at ease; happy and overwhelmed with love for these children, many of whom I had never even met before! The Christmas Party itself took place in the main Orfanato, where their junior school is and where the girls live – on a big outdoor playground which had been decorated with balloons and essentially converted into a giant dance floor for the more than 150 children and their many guests. More than 50 visitors and guests, many from the Casa de Campo community, joined the celebration; playing and dancing with the children, helping unwrap the gifts and sharing in their special christmas feast of pizza and cake! It was truly magical! At one point the the children did a wonderful show, dancing and singing for their guests and the dancers from the ‘Teatro de la Comunidad’ did a fabulous encore of their winning performance – which they finished by inviting all the guests onto the dance floor to dance ‘Waka Waka’ with them. It was AWESOME!!!

My time in the Orfanato was wonderful and made very special by a group of children who looked after me; helped me take the photos and took me on a nice tour of the school, these are the photos taken by the children on my tour around the Orfanato:
