The 36th annual Casa de Campo International Tennis Tournament will be played from this Thursday August 29th until this Sunday the 1st of September at La Terraza Tennis Club in honor of the Dominican tennis player, Juan José Álvarez.
Last year the tournament was played in honor of Vincenzo Mastrollili, founder of the Casa de Campo International Tennis Tournament, the Dominican Republic’s longest running tennis competition. Emilio Vásquez, Casa de Campo Director of tennis explained this year’s choice “Juan José Álvarez was a creole tennis player that stood out nationally and internationally and his death was a great loss to the Dominican sport.Our tournament is honored to dedicate the 36th edition to this player, who on countless occasions represented Dominican Tennis in foreign lands”.
Approximately 150 players have already registered to complete in the 36th annual Casa de Campo International Tennis Tournament, approximately half from the Dominican Republic, while the others will be visiting Casa de Campo from all around the world; Puerto Rico, Aruba, Curazao, Bonaire, Venezuela and the United States.
Emilio Vásquez, Casa de Campo’s Director of tennis and tennis pro, will this year, as every year be acting as the tournament director of this exciting annual tournament, which for the first time in it’s the 36 year history has added 2 juniors categories; for 16 year olds and 18 year olds. “To encourage vetran players to bring along their children”, said Vásquez.

On Sunday the 2nd of September, 2012, the finals of the 35th annual “Casa de Campo – Proseguros” Tennis Tournament celebrated at the La Terraza Tennis Club in Casa de Campo – a tough and fiercely battled competition, which was won by Alberto Castaño, a talented Spanish 17-year old tennis player!
