Good morning friends! Following a rather blustery day with quiet a monstrous storm surge battering the coastal areas of Casa de Campo, La Romana and the entire Dominican Republic, today we awoke to a much calmer day and reports that Tropical Storm Isaac has now mostly passed us by (it’s still a bit cloudy, windy, and the ocean is rather choppy), but the worst is very much over – which means that the Casa de Campo sports facilities, services and restaurants are now starting to reopen.

The “passing” of Tropical Storm Isaac – what happened?
Throughout the day on August 24th 2012 it was cloudy and windy with just small bursts of rain, but what was most noticeable and frightening was the storm surge, which grew steadily throughout the day. Throughout all coastal areas of Casa de Campo there was an enormous storm surge, with giant waves crashing over the Teeth of the Dog golf course, the seawall at the Marina Casa de Campo and many oceaside private Casa de Campo villas. In some areas the spray as waves crashed onto the rocks reached high above the palm trees and the roofs of the oceanfront homes.

By 6:30pm the winds really picked up as it started to really pour with rain and it got dark. After that all we could hear was the wind and rain howling outside of our windows.
Casa de Campo sports facilities, services and restaurants RE-OPEN!
On Thursday and Friday of this week the majority of Casa de Campo’s sports facilities, services and restaurants were CLOSED, but from midday TODAY (Saturday August 25th) ALL of these will be re-opened, with the exception of the Teeth of the Dog golf course.
Teeth of the Dog golf course – clearing up after Tropical Storm Isaac
The storm surge caused by Tropical Storm Isaac was such that a lot of debris was deposited throughout the Teeth of the Dog golf course – most of which has already been cleared up. However, a number of the oceanside holes also sustained damage to tee boxes, greens and sand traps – but again work is already underway to restore the golf course to it’s former glory and it should be re-open by Wednesday August 29th.
“We are working on the course and the Teeth of the Dog should be opened by Wednesday.”
— Gilles Gagnon, Casa de Campo Director of Golf
