Yesterday, Thursday, September 3rd, the 38th Annual International Tennis Tournament “Copa BDI – Casa de Campo” was officially inaugurated at the La Terraza Tennis Club in Casa de Campo.
Following the Dominican national anthem, which kicked off the opening ceremony of this legendary tennis tournament in Casa de Campo, Juan Carlos Rodriguez Copello, President of Banco BDI; Daniel Hernandez, General Manager of the Casa de Campo Hotel and Emilio Vasquez, Casa de Campo Tennis Director, as well as, Maria Mastrolilli, wife of Don Enzo Mastrolilli presented the “Gran Copa BDI”.
The 38th annual International Tennis Tournament “Copa BDI – Casa de Campo” has been dedicated to Don Enzo Mastrolilli, the founder of the tournament who passed away last December. In memory of Don Enzo, who’s passion and dedication grew the event into the Dominican Republic’s most prestigious and longest running tennis tournament, both Mario Emilio Guerrero, master of ceremonies, and Maria Mastrolilli spoke about Don Enzo, as did who highlighted his great contribution to tennis in the country.
At the inauguration celebration Juan Carlos Rodríguez Copello, President of Banco BDI took part in a symbolic tennis hit, to make way for the matches in which over 125 national and international tennis players will compete in different categories over this weekend.
During the opening match of the XXXVIII Casa de Campo International Tennis Tournament “Copa BDI”, the Dominican Jose Alberto Vasquez defeated his compatriot Jose Santana with a score of 8-6 in the Men’s Open category. Tournament rounds continue today and run until Sunday, September 6th, with the finals and award ceremony taking place in the afternoon.
