In an event that stood out for its sophistication and the excellence of its offerings, La Piazzetta restaurant, nestled in the idyllic Altos de Chavón at Casa de Campo, hosted a memorable wine tasting accompanied by a seven-course tasting menu. Held on September 6 and 7, the event focused on the vibrant and diverse wine world of Mezzogiorno, the term for Southern Italy.

The wine tasting was led by renowned sommelier Eduardo García, certified by the prestigious Court of Master Sommeliers. García, with his extensive experience and deep knowledge of wines, provided a comprehensive immersion into the rich wine history of Mezzogiorno, a region known for its transformation in recent years. “For a long time, Mezzogiorno focused on producing low-quality, high-volume wines. However, in recent decades, it has emerged with extraordinary wines that reflect its true potential and tradition,” García remarked during the event.

Attendees enjoyed a carefully curated selection of nine representative wines from the region. Highlights included Donnachiara 2022 Fiano di Avellino DOCG; Castorani 2019 Trebbiano d’Abruzzo Riserva DOCG; Occhipinti Siccagno 2018 Nero d’Avola, IGT Terre Siciliane; and Mastroberardino Radici 2014 Taurasi DOCG. Each wine narrated a unique story of its terroir, climate, and winemaking tradition.

Complementing the wine experience, Chef Rodrigo Menéndez, Culinary Director of Casa de Campo, presented a tasting menu showcasing the best of the region. The seven-course dinner featured delights such as orange and red shrimp salad, seafood arancini, crab, vitello tonnato, a creative take on porchetta, gnocchi with ragù, and Sicilian cannoli. Each dish was meticulously crafted to enhance the wines’ flavors and provide a memorable gastronomic experience.

The combination of exceptional wines and exquisite cuisine made this experience a true feast for the senses, establishing La Piazzetta as a must-visit destination for food and wine enthusiasts.
