The British Chamber of Commerce of the Dominican Republic (BRITCHAM) marked a decade of equestrian excellence with the 10th Annual British Polo Cup on March 1. Held at the prestigious Casa de Campo polo fields in La Romana, the event honored the late Carlos Morales Troncoso, whose passion for the sport shaped the country’s polo scene.

A Thrilling Match with a Shared Victory

Spectators witnessed an electrifying showdown between Casa de Campo and La Carmela, culminating in a rare draw after six intense chukkers. The match, officiated by referee Federico Martelli, showcased remarkable plays, keeping the crowd engaged from start to finish. BRITCHAM also recognized the support of leading brands that contributed to the tournament’s success.

Honoring Legacy and Strengthening Bonds

Morales Troncoso’s daughters — Cecil, Nicole, Ivette and Michelle — led the ceremonial kickoff, symbolizing their father’s lasting influence on Dominican polo. The event also highlighted Dominican companies fostering economic growth and strengthening ties with the United Kingdom. Honorees included EGE Haina, Casa Brugal, Autobritánica, United Brands, and CEPM – Energas.

A Tournament with a Purpose

Beyond the sport and camaraderie, the British Polo Cup championed a philanthropic mission. The event raised over RD$2.8 million for Hogar del Niño and Save the Children Dominican Republic, funding literacy programs for first through fourth-grade students.

A Community-Driven Event

The event’s success was made possible by the support of Central Romana Corporation, Banreservas, Inicia, and a host of corporate sponsors, reinforcing the spirit of solidarity that defines the tournament.

“This was more than a competition — it was a celebration of sport, elegance and the strong ties between the United Kingdom and the Dominican Republic,” said Nicole Toribio, BRITCHAM’s executive vice president. “Most importantly, it was an opportunity to support a meaningful cause.”

As Casa de Campo cements its status as a premier polo destination, the British Polo Cup remains a standout tradition, blending sport, philanthropy, and diplomacy in an unforgettable setting.
