It’s a tradition in the Dominican Republic to celebrate CARNAVAL throughout the month of February. A times when vibrant colors, drums and music combine in a festive ambiance of joy, tradition and culture. This year, the Marina Casa de Campo will once again be bringing this great tradition to Casa de Campo – with the “Carnaval de La Marina” scheduled for February 22nd!

On Saturday February 22nd, the Marina Casa de Campo will celebrate the 3rd annual Carnival de la Marina in honor of Juan Francisco Vasquez (Juampa).

Juan Francisco Vasquez (Juampa)

Juan Francisco Vasquez is a designer of Dominican Carnival characters, born in 1961 in Cotuí, known for the creation of characters very popular in Dominican Carnival, such as, “El Hombre con Vaina”, “El Papelú con Alas”, “El Príncipe Africano”. He has also been the face of the Dominican Carnival in an international advertising campaign ran by the of Secretaria de Estado de Turismo.

If last year’s “Carnaval de La Marina” is anything to go by, we can expect more than 40 “comparsas” (groups) parading through the streets, a spectacular sight which will be watching by not only members of the Casa de Campo community, but also visitors from La Romana and surrounding areas.

We hope to see you enjoy there!
