This Holiday Season, Altos de Chavón will celebrate the holidays with a variety of concerts, shows and activities, and here we bring you the complete calendar!
Focussing on Dominican traditions, the program of cultural and artistic activities will showcase local music, art and folklore.
Over the weeks leading up to these activities we will be publishing articles with more details – but for now here is an overview of everything which will be taking place over the Casa de Campo holiday season 2011 in Altos de Chavón!
Shows in the Amphiteatre at Altos de Chavón
KANDELA!
Live musical showcase with 50 dancers on stage showcasing the contagious rhythms and beat of the islands! Tickets available at Casa de Campo’s Concierge desk or at the amphitheater ticket office.

Time: 6:00pm
Christmas Lighting Ceremony & Nutcracker Ballet
It’s the official ceremony to launch the holiday season with the lighting of the holiday decorations and the beautiful tree at Plaza Chavón. The event will include a special presentation of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite by the Dominican National Ballet, sponsored by the Ministry of Culture of the Dominican Republic.
When: Friday December 16th

Folklore to the four winds
Performed by the National Folkloric Ballet and directed by Prof. Josefina Miniño. This is the premiere of this magnificent production, which has been specially prepared to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the National Folkloric Ballet.
When: Saturday the 17th of December
Time: 8:00pm
Activities at the Chavón Plaza
Christmas Bazaar (Bazaar Navideño)
This event will give Altos de Chavón visitors a great opportunity to purchase last minute presents or beautiful souvenirs to take home, while at the same time enjoy live entertainment and fun activities for children and the entire family.
Date: Friday and Saturday the 16th and 17th of December
Time: 4 – 10pm
Christmas Recital – Chavón Plaza
The well known pianist Maria de Fatima Giraldez will accompany the National Company of Lyric Singers and Soprano Antonia Maria Chabebe, performing an enchanting selection of beautiful songs and carols traditional of this season. A presentation also sponsored by the Ministry of Culture of the Dominican Republic.

Santa Claus comes to Chavón!
Santa and his merry elves make their first stop at Altos de Chavón! Santa will be making regular visits to Altos de Chavón through December to greet camera-touting children and adults right up until it’s time to pack the sledge and start the journey back to the North Pole! So all of you little ones (and not so little anymore!)…don’t forget to bring your letters to Santa!

DOMINICAN EXTRAVAGANCE!
An exciting program of activities throughout the afternoon for visitors to enjoy and learn about traditions, gastronomy, folklore, art and culture of the Dominican Republic, highlighting Altos de Chavón’s extensive cultural and artistic offerings including the Art Studios, the Gallery and the Regional Archaelogical Museum.
When: Dec. 12, 19, 21, 26, 28

National Dance School (ENDANZA)
A presentation directed by Prof. Ninoska Velazquez of ENDANZA, the official institution in charge of promoting and encouraging classical and folkloric dance studies in the Dominican Republic. This group consists of young people between the ages of 7 and 17, under special training to later join the National Ballet and the National Folkloric Ballet.

Christmas Carols by the Madrigalistas Choir
Conducted by Prof. Andrés Capellán.

Merry Christmas – Sunday, December 25
An afternoon and evening for the entire family to enjoy a time of worship, wonder, fun, music and dancing at the Altos de Chavón Plaza. Let’s celebrate…it’s Christmas!
5:30 PM Catholic Mass, St. Stanislaus Church
6:00 PM Live Nativity. Bring the entire family to see this recreation of a time in history that changed the world. It’s the birth of Jesus and the celebration of Christmas.
7 – 8 PM Santa arrives! He greets children with holiday treats!
8 – 11 PM Dominican Christmas Celebration. Slip on your dancing shoes and enjoy the holiday sounds of Orquesta Dekadas playing traditional Christmas merengue rhythms.
David Almengod & TankeLAB
An incredible, interactive and upbeat performance of 8 percussionists and a DJ, lead by this talented Dominican percussionist.

Live Nativity by the Fundación MIR
This Christmas season, the Fundacion MIR, with it’s 2 schools the Politecnico MIR Esperanza (for boys) and the Politecnico Fundacion MIR (for girls) invite you to enjoy a magical Christmas presentation in Altos de Chavón – the ‘Nacimiento Viviente’ or the traditional ‘Nativity play.’ Cookies, hot chocolate and ginger tea will be on sale in benefit of these two not-for-profit institutions.

Time: 6:30 – 7:30pm
Guided Tours of the Altos de Chavón Regional Archaelogical Museum.
In English and Spanish, every half hour. During the holiday festivities learn of the magical-religious celebrations of the Taino Indians, the first inhabitants of our island and how they relate to the present day Dominican celebrations.

Opening of new art exhibit by Fernando Tambourini
Inauguration cocktail to celebrate the opening of the art exhibit by Dominican artist Fernando Tambourini’s at the Altos de Chavón art gallery with live music!
