On the first Friday of every month, the non-profit organization Hogar del Niño organizes an event called “Cafe de La Leche”, which is essentially a fund-raising event, in which anyone may attend in exchange for a donation of dried milk, baby formula or cereal. The Cafe de la Leche is of great importance to Hogar del Niño, as the milk and formula donated during these events make up about 40% of what is used each month.

Did you know: Each kilogram of powdered milk represents a single glass of milk per day for a growing child in need, providing much needed nutrition. Last Friday we attended the 3rd Cafe de la Leche of 2009, which was graciously hosted by Mrs. Jeanette Lima in her beautiful home. Over looking the Chavon river and the Caribbean sea, over 100 ladies from Casa de Campo and La Romaa gathered to enjoy the sunset and, thanks to a cold front, the best weather so far this year. Most importantly, and thanks to the generosity of all those involved, Cafe de La Leche was able to collect a generous quantity of the desired products, which means a tremendous amount to the children who will be receiving the benefits of this event. If you would like to participate in future events, please remember that they take place on the first Friday of every month. The location of the event is also subject to change, though to keep up-to-date, please check back here for updates, or contact Alessandra Avanzini 809-523-2659 or the main offices of PBO (Hogar del Niño) at 809-523-8901; we hope to see you there next month!
