The British Chamber of Commerce will be celebrating the twentieth edition of the Royal Cup on April 7th, bringing the ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain to the country, Chris Campbell, as the player of honor. The classic, which has a large rotating cup in which all the winner’s names will be engraved on, will be held at the Teeth of the Dog in Casa de Campo, one of the main sponsors of the event.
The honorable ambassador Campbell welcomed everybody to the event and stated that it is an honor to be part of the Royal Cup, which this year will undoubtedly be a successful one. Wishing all of the participants good luck and inviting everybody to support the event. The details of this activity were offered by the BRITCHAM president, José Rodríguez, and the executive director, Franchesca Ortiz, who explained that the competition will begin at 8:00 in the morning with a scramble in pairs format with 3 categories A, B and C of gentlemen and a unique division for ladies.
Rodríguez stated that it has become a tradition to celebrate this event and that he is grateful that the people and sponsors have identified with the cause. Ortiz said that after the competition there will be an awards ceremony as well as multiple raffles and gifts courtesy of the sponsoring companies and the BRITCHAM. In addition, a replica of the famous British Open Golf Cup, the Claret Jug, will be awarded to the best gross score of the tournament.
In each of the categories, the three lowest net entries will win an award, as well as the best gross score of the tournament. In addition, special prizes will be awarded to the customary Longest Drive and Closest to the Pin. During the ceremony, everybody present paid their respects to Professor Williams Burgos, swimming professor and sports editor, who died that weekend due to a cardiac arrest, by having a minute of silence.
