‘The most complete project of child assistance in the Dominican Republic’ Hogar del Niño, is looking to add approximately 300 books to their collection and they need your help to assist them in hitting their mark!

Jade Franco, a volunteer at the Hogar del Niño is organizing the book drive and is desperate to see the shelves of the Hogar del Niño full with books! And since the Hogar del Niño welcomes babies from several months old to teenagers in high school, it should be very easy to find something on your shelf, that they can put to good use. Baby books, children’s story books, non-fiction, fiction, etc. can all contribute to their ongoing development. As their library sign so nicely reminds them “yo soy lo que he leído” (loosely translated as I become what I have read), donating a book is an indirect way of being a part of their enrichment.

The children speak at a beginner/intermediate English level so it is best to donate books in Spanish, however on my tour there I did meet a few children that would definitely devour a good English book.

The Book drive will run through April 31st and you can drop your books off in Casa de Campo or arrange to drop them off at the Hogar del Niño School.
