Intrigued to find out more about this event and book, we caught up with Yanet for a cup of tea and question time:

@cdcliving: What is your motivation for organizing these events?

Yanet: The idea is to incentivise an interest in reading and motivate people to get involved and share in cultural activities. Within Casa de Campo tere is a lack of cultural activities. The Museum is keen to bring new themes and cultural activities to join the group of people that longs to see a transformation come about in this magical place.

@cdcliving: Why did you choose “In the time of butterflies” as the first book?

Yanet: At the present time in the Dominican Republic there is a wave of violence against women and the society is coming together to fight fight against the current laws which offer no protection to women or at least very little. Historically for our country, the “crime” of the Mirabal sisters symbolizes part of the beginning of the fall of a dictatorship that negatively impacted the lives of Dominicans.

@cdcliving: What does this book/story mean to you?

Yanet: In reading this book we encounter the courage and fighting spirit that characterizes the Dominican people and especially Dominican women – many women are still anonymous, yet are an important part of the development of our society in each of the roles they play.
