anselmo grusso, casa de campo living Anselmo Grussu is well known in Casa de Campo – his face and camera seem to pop up at every notable occasion! With over 43 years photography experience and almost 10 years devoted to the beauty and beautiful people of Casa de Campo, Anselmo is an old-school photographer, who has blossomed into the digital era of photography. Anselmo started working in Casa de Campo nearly 10 years ago and has since then photographed everything and everyone inside this Dominican paradise. He has been the photographer for CasaLife magazine for many years, for which he has photographed events, places, people and even food, he also photographs private parties, weddings, baptisms, and villas – just about everything. He is passionate about what he does, he is creative and very talented and so always in demand. How did it all start? The following is an insight into the life of Anselmo and how he has developed as a photographer to the talented artist we now treasure in Casa de Campo. Anselmo’s passion for photography started at age 14, when in the 1960’s he began working with 3 photographers, for whom he helped to develop their black and white prints and from whom he began to develop his own knowledge and understanding of photography.

Anselmo – 1965 anselmo grussu milano 1967_filtered Following 6 years of hard work as an apprentice, he took his first real photographer’s job working for Italian Line Cruises, on their Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo and Raffaello cruise liners. Between 1973 and 1979, Anselmo took a similar job with Costa Cruises, where he was able to expand his expertise by not only taking portraits of passengers, but also creating photo exhibits of the places visited.

Anselmo – 1980 anselmo grussu 1980 In 1980, Anselmo opened his first studio called ‘Photographie Van Bosh’ which specialised in antiques photos and following 3 successful years with his studio, he decided to sell it to friends and took yet another job on a Russian cruise ship. This was an ‘explorer’ cruise ship which sailed around the world to exotic destinations such as Antarctica and Rio de Mazourne in Brazil, where he was able to experience photographing glaciers, the rain forest and wildlife. ANSELMO GRUSSU STORY0010 In 1984, Anselmo moved to Cannes where he worked as a freelance photographer, amassing his experience as a photo journalist as well as covering events, weddings and sophisticated parties. In 1992, with a group of friends, Anselmo formed a company to supply all the Costa cruise ships with photographers, he worked with Costa Cruiselines until 2000, when CEO and president of Casa de Campo, Claudio Silvestri helped him make connections here in Casa de Campo, which allowed him to start working here. And so since the year 2000, Anselmo has been here in Casa de Campo, initially working with friends, before setting up Cesar Photo (previously in the old Casa de Campo hotel) and now working freelance for Casa de Campo’s many businesses and villa owners. During his long and successful career, Anselmo has photographed and been photographed with many famous people, such as Bill Clinton, and the President of the Dominican Republic, Leonel Fernández. anselmo grusso, casa de campo living Anselmo’s story continues….but this photos are a good reflection of the story up to now:

And now? Now is the age of digital photography – up until just 5 years ago Anselmo was working with negatives and developing his own photos in the traditional way. Anselmo tells us that many photographers of his era have not been able to adapt to digital photography, Anselmo however, has been able to adapt his ‘old’ and classic photography methods to the digital era to combine the very best techniques of old and new. Anselmo continues to work within Casa de Campo, bringing smiles and happiness to the people here with his photography talent whether with portraits or still life. Anselmo is particularly proud of his wedding photography, here you can see a selection of Anselmo’s wedding photos: [nggallery id=395] We look forward to seeing more from Anselmo in the future!
