After many exciting games played from Thursday the 15th of March to Sunday the 18th of March as part of the McDaniel Teaching Pro’s Tournament, tournament finalists Pedro Nolasco and Francisco Concepción were joined by the rest of the ball boys, teachers, sponsors, family and friends of the Casa de Campo community to enjoy a wonderful dinner and prize-giving ceremony in the gardens of La Romana Country Club to celebrate the end of this 7th annual event!
On Sunday 18th of March, the McDaniel Teaching Pro’s final game was held at 4:30 pm at the La Romana Country Club where many enthusiastic Casa de Campo residents, visitors and villa owners, turned out to support their favorite player – and after a nail biting game played over an hour and a half, Pedro Nolasco sailed to victory in just 2 sets, to be crowned the champion of the McDaniel Teaching Pro’s Tournament for the 3rd consecutive year.
This year as every year, 4 more ball boys were inducted onto the McDaniel Scholarship program, which now finances the education of a total of 20 ball boys and 1 ball girl – which is the main fundraising objective of the tournament.
In addition to their formal schooling these youngsters also receive weekly English classes where they learn the basics of English conversation as well as important etiquette “tips” useful for their work at the La Terraza Tennis Club and the La Romana Country Club. To show off their English skills 3 ball boys took to the “stage” where they performed a short role-play, which not only showcased their developing grasp of the English language, but was also very amusing (because it went just a little bit wrong….)
