As part of the “Semana de Francia” celebrations this Thursday the 22nd of March to Sunday the 25th of March, the quiet artistic village of Altos de Chavón will be transformed into a “petit village français”  with a gastronomic, artistic and technological fair, street performers, an Autoferia (car show), 3 art exhibits and a lively program of musical, theatrical, gastronomical and sporting events! 

Although the “petit village français” will open at 10am this Thursday the 22nd of March – don’t miss the official inauguration ceremony which will be held on Thursday evening at 6:30pm in the Altos de Chavón main plaza, with live music by the INTEC choir and the orchestra of Rene Coll as well as the inauguration cocktail of art exhibit “Soleils” by Michel Bizet at the Altos de Chavón art gallery!

With so much going on in Altos de Chavón here’s a summary of all there will be to see and do from Thursday the 22nd through to Sunday the 25th of March 2012:

Autoferia Francesa Popular (Car show)
The Autoferia Francesa Popular will feature top French car brands; Citreon, Peugeot, Renault and Nissan, all of which will be available for test drives. Also present will be Michelin and “Total Lub”.
When: Thursday March 22nd –  Sunday March 25th
Open daily: 10am – 10pm
Where: The Altos de Chavón car park near to Genesis nightclub

Gastronomic, artistic and technological fair
More than 50 participants from Casa de Campo, the Dominican Republic, across the Caribbean and even France will be taking part in the fair which will wind through the cobbled streets of Altos de Chavón, offering food tastings and selling; typical French cuisine and delicacies, arts and crafts, as well as showcasing the latest in technological advances.
When: Thursday March 22nd –  Sunday March 25th
Open daily: 10am – 10pm
Where: In the principal cobbled area of Altos de Chavón – spreading out from the main plaza and the church

Street entertainment!
Bringing life and entertainment to the cobbled streets, will be a varied and exciting schedule of street artists, who will  perform at various times throughout the 4-day event, within the main Altos de Chavón area. The approximate timetable for performances is as follows (please note this schedule is subject to change):

Stilt walking exhibition:
• Saturday – 11:45pm, 5:15pm
• Sunday – 2pm

Show by the juggler “Chespi”:
• Saturday – 2:45pm
• Sunday – 2:15pm

Mimes by the Instituto Tecnológico (INTEC):
• Saturday – 4pm, 6pm

Clown show:
• Saturday – 2:30pm, 7:30pm
• Sunday – 2:30pm

Fire-eating with Renato
• Saturday – 7pm
• Sunday – 3:30pm

Facepainting and balloon animals
• Sunday – 3pm

Art exhibits!
During the 4-day “Semana de Francia” event,  3 art exhibits will be on display as part of the “Gastronomic, artistic and technological fair”, these are:
• “Soleils” by French artist Michel Bizet, which will be located upstairs in the Altos de Chavón art gallery
• “Art Furniture and Fine Art” by French artist and Casa de Campo resident Jean Pierre Frey, located in between the St Stanislaus church and Papa Jacks
• “La acción del caballo de Polo” by  Rachel White,  on display on the ground floor of the Altos de Chavón art gallery

Events and activities!

During the “Semana de Francia”, Altos de Chavón could be considered as the center of the events and activities, with numerous grand events and activities taking place in Altos de Chavón. A few key events taking place in Altos de Chavón are:

Live music by the INDESWASKA group from Guadalupe
When: Friday – 7pm, Saturday – 6:30pm and Sunday – 11.15am
Where: The main Altos de Chavón plaza (Fri and Sat) and at the “fish fountain” near to the Altos de Chavón amphitheater (Sun)

Grand Gala Celebration of French Music
Where: Altos de Chavón’s amphitheatre
When: Saturday, 8pm
Cost: Courtesy tickets (limited) available at the Villa Owners Club.
