Last Saturday, May 11, at 7 p.m., the Regional Archaeological Museum Altos de Chavón illuminated its main hall with the brilliance of Sevillian silverware, inaugurating the highly anticipated exhibition “El Esplendor de la Platería Sevillana.” This showcase, graciously provided by the esteemed Castilleja Art Foundation and Fomcae, presents a journey through centuries of Sevillian silversmithing tradition characterized by unparalleled talent and mastery.
Originating from the workshops of Seville, Spain, this collection of thirty exquisite pieces of religious silversmithing unveils a narrative that intertwines history, religion, and artistic expression. These treasures, crafted in silver and gold using various techniques, are not merely objects of adornment but artifacts of devotion and power, once adorning the sacred spaces of churches, cathedrals, and palaces across the American continent.
Sevillian silverware traces its roots back to the 15th century, when Spain, under the Catholic Monarchs, embarked on an evangelization mission in the Americas. The exhibition contextualizes this history, showcasing the intricate fusion of art and religiosity that shaped the colonial heritage of the Americas.
Hosted by the Regional Archaeological Museum Altos de Chavón, the exhibition aligns with the Patronato Benéfico Oriental’s (PBO) mission to preserve cultural heritage and promote social impact. Through initiatives like this exhibition, the PBO aims to empower vulnerable communities by leveraging the transformative power of culture.

“El Esplendor de la Platería Sevillana” is a tribute to the enduring legacy of craftsmanship and devotion. The exhibition will be open to the public from Tuesday to Sunday, June 9th, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., inviting attendees to immerse themselves in the splendor of Sevillian craftsmanship.
Those interested in experiencing this cultural extravaganza firsthand are encouraged to reserve their attendance by contacting the museum at (809) 532 8554 or via Instagram @Museo_Chavon.
