Luxury and Casa de Campo go together like wine and cheese, this was evidenced last week when Altos de Chavón filled up with Porsches in all shapes, colors, and sizes, the parking lot in front of the fountain and the amphitheater had never been seen so adorned.
The first edition of the Altos de Chavón Classic Car Exhibit took place on Saturday, July 9, and Sunday, July 10, 2022. This exceptional exhibition of classic cars featured the award-winning German sports car brand Porsche’s years of history, allowing visitors to appreciate each model’s particular styles and classic parts.
For two days, residents and guests of Casa de Campo, as well as numerous groups of members of the Porsche Club of the Dominican Republic, were able to enjoy 25 Classic, Modern Classic, and iconic Porsches such as Exclusive Manufaktur & Heritage Design, an art exhibition by the artist Argenis Lebrón in honor of the German brand, live music, and cigar and rum tastings.
The Altos de Chavón Classic Car Exhibition in honor of the famous German brand Porsche had a significant representation of sports cars from the 80s, 90s, and 2000s. Several models stand out for their historical relevance, where there was the opportunity to witness two 911 Turbo, one from 1984 and another from 1985 in perfect condition. Also on display were several 911s evoking the 1970s and 1980s era, immortalized by Steve McQueen in his films.
The stars of the event were a yellow 1998 993 Carrera 2S with only 910 miles and a green 1989 964 with only 170 miles. Both cars were presented in their original “like new” condition. Within the 993 range, a ’97 Carrera 4S was also showcased.
There was also the opportunity to see in one place most of the sports Porsches, with a front engine, from the 1980s, such as the 924, 944, 944S, 944 Turbo, and two copies of the magnificent 928S and 928S4 that recall their appearance in the 1983 film Risky Business with Tom Cruise.
The plaza of the Altos de Chavón amphitheater also served as the stage for American Express, together with the Porsche Center Santo Domingo and Casa de Campo, to delight the public with half a dozen limited-edition Porsches, such as the GT2 RS and GT3 RS, as well as the Heritage Speedster and Targa and a Turbos S Exclusive Manufaktur. A 911 50th Anniversary was also on display.
Each car on display has more than just monetary value, some also have great sentimental value. Some cars in the exhibit have never been driven and after purchase have always been “show” cars! Each vehicle was in pristine condition and many of the owners stayed by their prized possessions eager to share stories and answer any questions admirers had.
It was without a doubt a successful event and attracted members of the community of all ages who attended the first edition of the Altos de Chavón Classic Car Show. Let’s hope we get to see more of it soon!
