On Tuesday the 16th of August the “26 Bienal Nacional de Artes Visuales” art exhibit was officially inaugurated in Santo Domingo’s Museum of Modern Art with 27 graduates from the Altos de Chavón School of Art and Design exhibiting in the show!
The Altos de Chavón School of Art and Design based here in Casa de Campo La Romana on the east coast of the Dominican Republic, is a U.S. not-for- profit public charity that has a cultural and educational mission. The school is on a university level and offers an associate degree with a curriculum about art and design. Of the 27 Altos de Chavón graduates taking part in the “26 Bienal Nacional de Artes Visuales”, 5 graduated from the school just last year and 4 graduated this June! To be involved in such a high quality and nationally celebrated exhibit in Santo Domingo, speaks volumes for the graduates, as well as for the quality of teaching at the Altos de Chavón School of Art and Design. CONGRATULATIONS!!
As part of the exhibit a number of awards were presented to recent graduates of the school; Wali Vidal, who graduated last year was awarded the “Young Artist” award, whilst Moises Pellerano, who just graduated in June received the “Painting” award of US$10,000 dollars! Proud Fine Arts teacher, Raul Miyar, told us “You have no idea how proud I am of them!”
The “26 Bienal Nacional de Artes Visuales” art exhibit will be on display in Santo Domingo until November the 11th and can be found in the Museo de Arte Moderno (modern art museum) in the Plaza de la Cultura in Santo Domingo.
