Great news! After being ranked third in her category at one of the Dominican Republic’s most important tennis tournaments, our very own Alexa Briones, member of the Casa de Campo community and extremely talented tennis player won the feminine doubles in her category, in the 5th annual “International Juvenil Tennis Mangu Cup 2012”, celebrated from the 22nd to the 28th of September in Santo Domingo!

Both Alexa Briones and her partner Penelope Abreu were crowned winners in the 14 year old category in the 5th annual “International Juvenil Mangu Tennis Cup 2012” celebrated in the Parque del Este in Santo Domingo, defeating Bertha Rodriguez and Laura Quezada with sets of 6-3, 6-3; undoubtedly one more step (and one very important one) to accomplish Alexa’s most precious dream of representing the Dominican Republic in one of the most important tournaments of the world!

Alexa continues to work hard to get better at tennis. She is concentrated in having the discipline and focus she needs to grow as a tennis player. Having this victory in such a short time of practice and competitions in this sport, compared to other players is a pride and motivation for her.”

– Eliane Briones, mother of Alexa Briones

Well done, Alexa!

Alexa Briones

Alexa Briones, who is only 13 years old, studies at the Abraham Lincoln School in Central Romana in La Romana, where she is an outstanding 7th grade student. Since she has always been a competitive girl, in the past Alexa has also participated in horseback riding tournaments in Casa de Campo, winning third place on various occasions. Today, competing on the Dominican National Federation circuit, Alexa has been named finalist in two ocassions. She started training (and still is) at the La Terraza Tennis Club, where she and trainer Frank de los Santos, warm up by running up and down the stairs of the Altos de Chavon amphitheater to strengthen her legs before playing at the tennis courts.
