Alberto Castaño is crowned champion of the 35th annual “Casa de Campo – Proseguros” Tennis Tournament

Last Sunday the 2nd of September, 2012, the finals of the 35th annual “Casa de Campo – Proseguros” Tennis Tournament celebrated at the La Terraza Tennis Club in Casa de Campo –  a tough and fiercely battled competition, which was won by Alberto Castaño, a talented Spanish 17-year old tennis player! After 4 days full of excitement, adrenaline, emotions and tennis, as international participants from all parts of the world, played in the 35th annual “Casa de Campo – Proseguros” Tennis Tournament, a prize-giving ceremony was celebrated at La Terraza Tennis Club where a young boy (17 year old) who flew to Casa de Campo from Spain to take part in the tennis tournament, was crowned champion in the event’s main category; “Open Masculine”, defeating our very own Pedro Nolasco who is ranked #4 best tennis player in the Dominican Republic!

“The players did great, they were excellent and the competition was great too. In this edition we were surprised when neither talented Dominican player, Jesús Félix, nor our own Pedro Nolasco won the cup. The champion was a great 17 year old, Alberto Castaño who only came to Casa de Campo to play in this tournament. I’ve received many calls and comments about how great the tournament was, as well as the party and the amount of people participating in it.”

The event founded in 1978 was attended by its founder, Vicenzo Mastrolilli, also responsable for its great success during these 35 years of celebration, as well as being the person in charge of handing over the cup to the champion (Alberto), accompaniend by Emilio Vásquez, Daniel Hernández and Juan José Arteaga. Given that everybody played brilliantly in the tennis courts of La Terraza Tennis Club, here we share the complete list of winners in their respective categories:

“Casa de Campo – Proseguros” Tennis Tournament – Final results C-1 femenine Miguelina Peguero (PR) defeating Aleyda Villanueva (RD) 10-1. C-2 femenine Adriana Amaro (RD) defeating Candy Belén (RD) 6-2, 6-2. C-3 (21-39 años) femenina Grace Cochón (RD) – Warlan Jiménez (RD) Suspended because of rain –  7-6 (7), 1-4, 40-40. Concluded the following Monday C-3 (40 años ó más) femenine Virginia Rivera (PR) defeating Joanna Adriozola (Ven) 7-6 (2), retiro. Open masculine Alberto Castaño (ESP) defeating Pedro Nolasco (RD) 6-2, 6-2. B (35 años ó más) masculine Eddy Liriano (RD) defeating Julio Ávila (RD) 6-2, 6-3. C-1 (21-39 años) masculine Daniel Jáquez (RD) defeating Jordany Castillo (RD) 10-3. C-1 (40 años ó más) masculine Massimo Genatiempo (ITA) defeating Francisco Carela (RD) 6-4, 7-5. C-2 (21-39 años) masculine Ángelo Ventura (RD) defeating Ángel Guzmán (RD) 10-6. C-2 (40 años ó más) masculine José Chevalier (RD) defeating Hermógenes Guerrero (RD) 10-4. C-2 (60 años ó más) masculine José Carlos de Dios (Ven) defeating Ángel Bernal (RD) 6-2, 6-1. C-3 (21-39 años) masculine Francis Batista (RD) defeating Omar Monción (RD) 10-8. C-3 (40 años ó más) masculina Lorenzo Bobea (RD) defeating Allan Reyes (PR) 10-4.
