toros me

I was recently invited to the Francisco.A.Micheli Baseball stadium in La Romana – in my capacity of Casa de Campo Living editor and respected journalist, to photograph and interview the Los Toros del Este Baseball players.

I of course was thrilled to be invited and off I went – armed with only my camera and what turned out to be a hugely inadequate understanding of Basaball! However, having learned from my previous bad experiences I was at least adequately dressed and made-up – always ready for a camera opportunity!

My problems began when I started ‘interviewing’ the Los Toros players, starting from not having a clue who was who – I kept trying to interview the wrong people; from waterboys to the opposition team members. When I finally managed to locate some real bona-fide Los Toros players the interviewing process was certainly not as easy as I’d anticipated – I had no idea what to ask and so ended up asking the most ridiculous and irrelevant questions, not to mention making mistakes such as calling the ‘game’ a ‘match.’

The worst moment was when I asked Chris Petit:

“So has it always been big aim for you to come to the Dominican Republic and play?”

to which he replied: “um, well my goal is obviously to play for the big leagues.”

At the time I didn’t realize how terrible this was!

Soon after that I gave up on the interviewing and persuaded some nice Los Toros players who were practicing batting to give me a try – and they seemed only to happy to accommodate my whim! Below you can watch the video of me ‘batting’ for Los Toros – aqui to’somos Toros!

Thank you to Elizabeth Silfa for giving me this great opportunity to humiliate myself once again!
