There can be no doubt that Xiomara Menéndez is one of Casa de Campo’s great ladies – and a fabulous hostess. Without fail each and every occasion hosted at her oceanside villa in the Bahía Minitas area of Casa de Campo is simply spectacular and the recent “Adopt a Crib” dinner was no exception.
Hosted each year by Xiomara Menéndez, the founder of the Patronato Benefico Oriental (umbrella organisation to the Hogar del Niño) with her husband Ramon Menéndez, the “Adopt a Crib” dinner is an exclusive occasion to thank the generous Casa de Campo residents and villa owners who support the “Adopt a Crib” program, which enables the daycare and educational facility in La Romana to care for more than 200 babies in their “crib room” (la sala de cuña) everyday, as well as a total of more than 1500 adolescents.
Every year, the event’s elegant hostess selects a theme; last year “Arabian Nights” and this year “Japanese”, an aspect which adds an extra sparkle to the event, as guests eagerly anticipate what awaits them – with some even dressing to suit the theme!
Greeted at the door by the daughters; Lía and Gala of Xiomarita Matos (daughter of Xiomara and President of the Hogar del Niño), we were swept through the magnificent villa (location for Xiomara’s annual Christmas Café de la Leche occasions), and immediately drawn out onto the terrace. The dinner had been staged over the pool glowing in red, blue and purple lights with small white origami birds creating an illusion of “flying” across the night sky. Bravo to Xiomara and the team of Tres Eventos!
As the many guests began to arrive, those who had made extra special donations to the “Adopt A Crib” scheme were presented with framed artwork – created by the children of the Hogar del Niño.
Taking their seats for dinner, guests were treated to a magnificent array of Sushi and in a series of speeches were personally thanked for their contributions to the scheme.
A truly unforgettable evening for a magnificent cause!
