On Saturday the 8th and Sunday the 9th of June the 10th National Youth Tennis Tournament was played in Casa de Campo an event attended by about 80 children and young tennis players from across the Dominican Republic.
This year the tournament was organized by the Dominican Federation of Tennis (FEDOTENIS) and was played at the La Terraza Tennis Club in Casa de Campo.

The National Youth Tennis tournament is held annually with players from across the country from; La Vega, Santiago, San Francisco de Macoris, La Romana, Casa de Campo and Santo Domingo representing numerous tennis clubs such as; Parque del Este, Club Naco, Santo Domingo Country Club, Club Arroyo Hondo, Santo Domingo Tennis Club and Club Claro.
The players competed in six different categories ranged by ages; “Mini Tennis ( 5-8 years old)” and the categories “10”, “12”, “14”, “16” and “18” years old, also divided into masculine and feminine. The tournament began on Saturday early morning and ended on Sunday evening after the prize-giving ceremony. NBA basketball player Xavier Henry during the tournament
Many different spectators passed by the La Terraza Tennis Club to enjoy the tournament, including Casa de Campo residents and special guests such as NBA basketball player Xavier Henry, who currently plays for the New Orleans Pelicans. Xavier, who was accompanied by TV presenter Emely Taveras and her mother, spent some time with the participants and posed for photos. Also in attendance was TV personality Aridia Taveras.
A highlight was also the participation of the Dominican tennis player Joelle Schad, winner of several medals at the Central American Games and Caribbean Games, and the Pan American Games in 90s. Joelle is currently coach of her two children Joelle Alexandra and Oliver Schad and her niece Valeria Schad, the last two participants in the National Youth Tennis tournament.
