On Saturday the 6th of April, the 28th annual Sugar Golf Tournament came to a close with the grand prize-giving ceremony and dinner-dance hosted at the La Romana Country Club in Casa de Campo.
The annual tournament, headed by Alfy Fanjul, President and CEO of the Central Romana Corporation in La Romana was a great success that united more than 400 golfers in their shared love of the game and good times – which with the opportunity to play 4 rounds on Casa de Campo’s world famous courses; Teeth of the Dog, Links, Dye Fore and the La Romana Country Club and enjoy a series of celebrations – a great time was certainly had by all!

The event was held at the La Romana Counry Club, Casa de Campo

This was the moment everyone was waiting for – when the winners of this prestigious tournament were presented with their trophies and prize-money! The lady golfers were presented with beautiful jewellery by Everett’s Designs (based in the Marina Casa de Campo and Altos de Chavón) as well as Bibi Leon hand painted plates, both annual supporters of the tournament. The male golfers on the other hand were happy to receive shiny silver trophies.

As sponsors of the Welcome Cocktail celebrated on Wednesday the 3rd of April at the Casa de Campo Yacht Club, Benetti and IBI Yachts also took part in the ceremony. Alice Caslini de Morcioni, Owner and Director of Sales and Marketing at IBI Yachts and Tommaso Bilotta the Azimut-Benetti Vice-President for the USA presented the trophy, a shiny silver replica of the Benetti Delfino 93′ on show at the Welcome Cocktail.

This year Gilles Gagnon, Casa de Campo Director of Golf for the past 30 years, who has expertly overseen the organization of the tournament from the beginning, presented a very special gift to both Alfy Fanjul and Jamie Niven – a painted copy of the Casa de Campo Sugar Tournament logo – drawn by hand by local La Romana artist Jorge Silvestre, who designed it 27 years ago.
The night ended, as do the best nights in Casa de Campo – with dancing to tropical latin music under the stars!
