On Saturday the 16th of February 2013, what felt like every little boy and girl, along with their parents, aunts, uncles and even grandparents – were to be found at the 2nd annual Hogar del Niño MTB bike marathon! Cycling for a good cause was never so popular! Bravo! Kitted out with the new Hogar del Niño “Soy PBO” T-shirts and even cute waterbottle, Casa de Campo’s enthusiastic cycling community peddled out from the La Romana Country Club at about 9am in the morning. The longest route (for the adults and teenagers) looped around Casa de Campo taking in Altos de Chavón, the Dye Fore and the Teeth of the Dog, whilst the younger participants (and their escorts) whizzed around a similar yet slightly shorter route. From the overwhelming popularity of this event – I think we can now say that cycling in Casa de Campo is no longer a “fad” but is here to stay! And with so many beauty spots to cycle around – the oceanside holes of the Teeth of the Dog for a start – why not!? Maybe it’s time a got a bike – perhaps I’ll go check out that new store “One Way Bike” in the Marina Casa de Campo… watch this space I’ll be racing after you with my camera and a bike next!
